No other technology has shaped the way we communicate in recent years quite like the Internet. Like the invention of the telegraph, telephone, mobile phone and the computer, the Internet will take its place in history for revolutionising the way modern society communicates. The Internet began its theoretical beginnings in US academia in the late 1960s and early 1970s. By 1980 it was adapted as a defence network standard and by the mid 1990s IP had become the network protocol of choice.
